Programme’s Philosophy

The Bachelor of Arts in English programme aims to produce graduates based on the constructivist approach, emphasizing the learner as the creator of their own knowledge. This is achieved by encouraging students to learn through a variety of methods and utilize technology and media in designing, creating, and solving problems, leading to the development of innovative linguistic concepts and solutions. Additionally, the program fosters self-awareness and continuous self-improvement, while promoting an understanding of others and an appreciation for linguistic, social, and cultural diversity.

 

Programme’s Objectives

To produce graduates with the following knowledge and competencies:

  1. Proficiency in English communication skills to achieve various objectives with communicative partners from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  2. Knowledge in linguistics, literature, and English language teaching, with the ability to apply this knowledge to solve practical problems while upholding academic principles and ethics.
  3.  A foundational understanding of the humanities and social sciences, awareness of contemporary issues, and adaptability to change.
  4. The capability to integrate linguistic knowledge with technology and interdisciplinary knowledge to contribute to their profession or advance academic knowledge.

Programme Learning Outcomes: PLOs

  • PLO 1 Apply knowledge of linguistics, literature and English language teaching to address contemporary challenges in academic and professional domains.
  • PLO 2 Examine historical, sociocultural, environmental and political factors affecting the production and use of texts, media and communication in English.
  • PLO 3 Communicate effectively in written and spoken English in a variety of personal, social and professional contexts, showing intercultural awareness, adaptability and global citizenship.
