การแข่งขันโต้วาทีภาษาอังกฤษ 

คุณสมบัติผู้เข้าแข่งขันและเงื่อนไขการสมัครเข้าแข่งขัน 

  1. เป็นนักเรียนระดับมัธยมศึกษาตอนปลายจากโรงเรียนมัธยมศึกษาในเขตภาคเหนือตอนบนของประเทศไทย
  2. สมัครเข้าร่วมการแข่งขันเป็นทีม ทีมละ 4 คน โดยเป็นผู้เข้าแข่งขัน 3 คนและผู้แข่งขันสำรอง 1 คน และในระหว่างการแข่งขันแต่ละรอบ ทุกทีมที่เข้าร่วมแข่งขันจะไม่สามารถเปลี่ยนผู้เข้าแข่งขันได้ ยกเว้น มีเหตุสุดวิสัยที่ทำให้ผู้เข้าแข่งขันไม่สามารถเข้าร่วมการแข่งขันได้ สามารถแจ้งชื่อผู้แข่งขันสำรองที่ได้ลงทะเบียนไว้แล้วต่อผู้ประสานงานหรือกรรมการตัดสินอย่างน้อยภายใน 1-2 วันก่อนการแข่งขันในแต่ละรอบ 
  3. มีครูผู้ฝึกสอนและควบคุมทีมเป็นผู้ดูแลและนำผู้แข่งขันเข้าร่วมแข่งขันตามกำหนดการทุกครั้ง
  4. สถานศึกษาแต่ละแห่งสามารถส่งทีมโต้วาทีเข้าแข่งขันได้เพียง 1 ทีมเท่านั้น
  5. ผู้บริหารสถานศึกษาหรือผู้แทนต้องลงทะเบียนตอบรับการเข้าร่วมแข่งขันโต้วาทีในเว็บไซต์กิจกรรม MFU English Talent Expo 2023 ที่แจ้งโดยสำนักวิชาศิลปศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยแม่ฟ้าหลวง ภายในวันอังคารที่ 4 เมษายน 2566

กติกาการแข่งขันโต้วาที

การแข่งขันจะแบ่งออกเป็น 4 รอบ โดยมีกติกาการแข่งขันในแต่ละรอบ ดังนี้

การแข่งขันรอบที่ 1 (รอบคัดเลือก) 

  1. สำนักวิชาศิลปศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยแม่ฟ้าหลวงเป็นผู้จับฉลากแบ่งสาย กำหนดญัตติและจับฉลากเลือกฝ่ายเสนอหรือฝ่ายค้านให้แต่ละทีม โดยแบ่งทีมผู้เข้าแข่งขันออกเป็น 2 สาย เพื่อคัดเลือกทีมที่มีคะแนนสูงสุดสายละ 2 ทีม รวมเป็นทีมที่เข้ารอบต่อไปจำนวน 4 ทีม และจะดำเนินการแจ้งรายละเอียดการแบ่งสาย การกำหนดทีมฝ่ายเสนอและฝ่ายค้าน และญัตติในการแข่งขัน  รอบที่ 1 ให้แต่ละทีมทราบภายในวันศุกร์ที่ 7 เมษายน 2566 ผ่านเว็บไซต์กิจกรรม MFU English Talent Expo 2023
  2. ผู้เข้าร่วมการแข่งขันทุกทีมต้องบันทึกวีดีทัศน์การพูดโต้วาที โดยเรียงลำดับการพูดจากหัวหน้าทีมและผู้สนับสนุนลำดับที่ 2  และ 3 ผู้เข้าแข่งขันในแต่ละทีมจะต้องกล่าวชื่อและบทบาทของตนเองเป็นภาษาอังกฤษและผู้เข้าแข่งขันแต่ละคนมีเวลาคนละ 7 นาที ในการนำเสนอ คัดค้านหรือโต้แย้งตามบทบาทการเป็นทีมฝ่ายเสนอหรือฝ่ายค้านและญัตติที่สำนักวิชาศิลปศาสตร์กำหนดให้
  3. ผู้เข้าร่วมแข่งขันทุกทีมต้องนำส่งวีดีทัศน์การพูดโต้วาทีในรูปแบบไฟล์ MP4 เท่านั้น ภายในวันศุกร์ที่ 21 เมษายน 2566 โดยการบันทึกชื่อไฟล์วีดีทัศน์ในรูปแบบ “ชื่อทีม-ชื่อโรงเรียน” (เช่น “ทีมแม่ฟ้าวาที-โรงเรียนแม่ฟ้าวิทยาคม”) และอัปโหลดไฟล์ลงใน Google Drive ที่ผู้ประสานงานกิจกรรมจะดำเนินการแจ้งให้ทราบผ่านเว็บไซต์กิจกรรม MFU English Talent Expo 2023 เป็นลำดับถัดไป
  4. ไม่อนุญาตให้ผู้เข้าร่วมแข่งขันพูดคุยหรือปรึกษาครูผู้ฝึกสอนหรือบุคคลภายนอกและไม่อนุญาตให้ใช้สื่อประกอบการพูด เช่น ภาพประกอบ โทรศัพท์เคลื่อนที่ อุปกรณ์ หรือสื่ออิเล็กทรอนิกส์ใดๆ ในระหว่างการแข่งขัน   
  5. ประกาศผลคะแนนทีมที่มีคะแนนสูงสุด 4 ทีมและผ่านการเข้ารอบต่อไป ภายในวันศุกร์ที่ 28 เมษายน 2566 ผ่านเว็บไซต์กิจกรรม MFU English Talent Expo 2023 
  6. กรรมการตัดสินและกรรมการประมวลผลการแข่งขันจะบันทึกคะแนนการพูดของผู้เข้าแข่งขันแต่ละคน เพื่อคัดเลือกผู้ที่มีคะแนนการพูดได้สูงสุดนับตั้งแต่รอบที่ 1 ถึงรอบที่ 4 และรับรางวัลผู้พูดยอดเยี่ยม (The Best Speaker) จำนวน 2 รางวัล รางวัลละ 500 บาทพร้อมเกียรติบัตร

การแข่งขันรอบที่ 2

  1. สำนักวิชาศิลปศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยแม่ฟ้าหลวงเป็นผู้กำหนดญัตติ และแบ่งทีมการแข่งขันรอบที่ 2 โดยแบ่งออกเป็น 2 คู่แข่งขัน โดยกำหนดเป็น ทีมที่ 1 แข่งกับทีมที่ 4 และทีมที่ 2 แข่งกับทีมที่ 3 เพื่อคัดเลือกทีมที่มีคะแนนสูงสุด 2 ทีม             โดยจะดำเนินการแจ้งรายละเอียดการกำหนดทีมฝ่ายเสนอและฝ่ายค้าน และญัตติในการแข่งขันรอบที่ 2 ให้แต่ละทีมทราบภายในวันศุกร์ที่ 5 พฤษภาคม 2566 ผ่านเว็บไซต์กิจกรรม MFU English Talent Expo 2023
  2. ผู้เข้าร่วมแข่งขันทั้ง 4 ทีม จะเข้าร่วมการแข่งขันรอบที่ 2 ผ่านระบบการประชุมออนไลน์ Zoom Meeting ระหว่างวันที่ 22 – 26 พฤษภาคม 2566 โดยสำนักวิชาศิลปศาสตร์จะดำเนินการแจ้งผู้เข้าร่วมการแข่งขันทุกทีมเกี่ยวกับวัน เวลาที่แข่งขันและช่องทางการเข้าร่วมการแข่งขันอย่างน้อย 1 สัปดาห์ก่อนการแข่งขันผ่านเว็บไซต์กิจกรรม MFU English Talent Expo 2023
  3. ผู้เข้าร่วมแข่งขันในแต่ละทีมต้องเข้าสู่ระบบประชุมออนไลน์อย่างน้อย 30 นาทีก่อนเวลาการแข่งขัน เพื่อรายงานตัว           หากผู้เข้าร่วมแข่งขันในแต่ละทีมไม่สามารถเข้าร่วมได้ทันเวลาการแข่งขันให้ถือว่าหมดสิทธิ์ในการเข้าแข่งขัน ทั้งนี้ หากมีเหตุอันสุดวิสัยให้ขึ้นอยู่กับดุลยพินิจของคณะกรรมการตัดสินเป็นสิทธิ์ขาด
  4. ผู้เข้าแข่งขันแต่ละคนมีเวลาคนละ 7 นาที และเมื่อเวลาเหลือ 1 นาที ผู้กำกับเวลาจะกดกริ่ง (หรือสัญญาณอื่นๆ) เตือน 1 ครั้ง และเมื่อหมดเวลาการนำเสนอของผู้เข้าร่วมแข่งขันแต่ละคน ผู้กำกับเวลาจะกดกริ่ง (หรือสัญญาณอื่นๆ) 2 ครั้ง และสามารถพูดต่อได้ไม่เกิน 15 วินาที 
  5. ไม่อนุญาตให้ผู้เข้าร่วมแข่งขันพูดคุยหรือปรึกษาครูผู้ฝึกสอนหรือบุคคลภายนอกและไม่อนุญาตให้ใช้สื่อประกอบการพูด เช่น ภาพประกอบ โทรศัพท์เคลื่อนที่ อุปกรณ์ หรือสื่ออิเล็กทรอนิกส์ใดๆ ในระหว่างการแข่งขัน
  6. ทีมที่มีผลคะแนนเป็นลำดับที่ 1 และ 2 จะเข้าสู่การแข่งขันรอบที่ 4 เพื่อชิงรางวัลชนะเลิศ และทีมที่มีผลคะแนนเป็นลำดับที่ 3 และ 4 จะเข้าสู่การแข่งขันรอบที่ 3 เพื่อชิงรางวัลรองชนะเลิศอันดับที่ 3 ต่อไป
  7. ผู้เข้าร่วมแข่งขันต้องปฏิบัติตามกติกาโดยเคร่งครัด หากมีเหตุหรือปัญหาอื่นใด ในระหว่างการแข่งขัน ให้อยู่ในดุลยพินิจของคณะกรรมการตัดสิน

การแข่งขันรอบที่ 3 (รอบชิงรางวัลรองชนะเลิศอันดับ 3)

  1. ผู้เข้าร่วมแข่งขัน 2 ทีมที่มีคะแนนเป็นลำดับที่ 3 และ 4 จากรอบที่ 2 จะเข้าร่วมการแข่งขันโต้วาทีเพื่อชิงรางวัลรองชนะเลิศอันดับ 3 ณ มหาวิทยาลัยแม่ฟ้าหลวง จังหวัดเชียงราย ในวันศุกร์ที่ 9 มิถุนายน 2566
  2. สำนักวิชาศิลปศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยแม่ฟ้าหลวงจะดำเนินการแจ้งรายละเอียดการกำหนดทีมฝ่ายเสนอและฝ่ายค้าน และญัตติในการแข่งขันรอบที่ 3 ให้แต่ละทีมทราบภายในวันศุกร์ที่ 2 มิถุนายน 2566 ผ่านเว็บไซต์กิจกรรม MFU English Talent Expo 2023
  3. ผู้เข้าแข่งขันแต่ละคนมีเวลาคนละ 7 นาที และเมื่อเวลาเหลือ 1 นาที ผู้กำกับเวลาจะกดกริ่ง (หรือสัญญาณอื่นๆ) เตือน 1 ครั้ง และเมื่อหมดเวลาการนำเสนอของผู้เข้าร่วมแข่งขันแต่ละคน ผู้กำกับเวลาจะกดกริ่ง (หรือสัญญาณอื่นๆ) 2 ครั้ง และสามารถพูดต่อได้ไม่เกิน 15 วินาที
  4. ไม่อนุญาตให้ผู้เข้าร่วมแข่งขันพูดคุยหรือปรึกษาครูผู้ฝึกสอนหรือบุคคลภายนอกและไม่อนุญาตให้ใช้สื่อประกอบการพูด เช่น ภาพประกอบ โทรศัพท์เคลื่อนที่ อุปกรณ์ หรือสื่ออิเล็กทรอนิกส์ใดๆ ในระหว่างการแข่งขัน
  5. ไม่อนุญาตให้ผู้ชมการโต้วาทียกป้าย ส่งเสียงเชียร์ หรือทำท่าทางเพื่อส่งสัญญาณให้กับผู้เข้าร่วมการแข่งขันระหว่างการแข่งขัน และไม่อนุญาตให้ผู้ชมการโต้วาทีสนทนาทางโทรศัพท์ในห้องแข่งขัน หรือเดินเข้า-ออกระหว่างการแข่งขัน อันจะเป็นการรบกวนสมาธิของผู้แข่งขันได้
  6. ผู้เข้าแข่งขันต้องปฏิบัติตามกติกาโดยเคร่งครัด และผลการตัดสินของคณะกรรมการถือเป็นสิ้นสุด 

การแข่งขันรอบที่ 4 (รอบชิงชนะเลิศและรองชนะเลิศอันดับ 2)

  1. ผู้เข้าร่วมแข่งขันที่มีคะแนนสูงสุดจากรอบที่ 2 เข้าร่วมการแข่งขันโต้วาทีเพื่อชิงรางวัลชนะเลิศและรางวัลรองชนะเลิศอันดับ 2 ณ มหาวิทยาลัยแม่ฟ้าหลวง จังหวัดเชียงราย ในวันศุกร์ที่ 9 มิถุนายน 2566
  2. สำนักวิชาศิลปศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยแม่ฟ้าหลวงจะดำเนินการแจ้งรายละเอียดการกำหนดทีมฝ่ายเสนอและฝ่ายค้าน และญัตติในการแข่งขันรอบที่ 4 ให้แต่ละทีมทราบภายในวันศุกร์ที่ 2 มิถุนายน 2566 ผ่านเว็บไซต์กิจกรรม MFU English Talent Expo 2023
  3. ผู้เข้าแข่งขันแต่ละคนมีเวลาคนละ 7 นาที และเมื่อเวลาเหลือ 1 นาที ผู้กำกับเวลาจะกดกริ่ง (หรือสัญญาณอื่นๆ) เตือน 1 ครั้ง และเมื่อหมดเวลาการนำเสนอของผู้เข้าร่วมแข่งขันแต่ละคน ผู้กำกับเวลาจะกดกริ่ง (หรือสัญญาณอื่นๆ) 2 ครั้ง และสามารถพูดต่อได้ไม่เกิน 15 วินาที

  5. ไม่อนุญาตให้ผู้ชมการโต้วาทียกป้าย ส่งเสียงเชียร์ หรือทำท่าทางเพื่อส่งสัญญาณให้กับผู้เข้าร่วมการแข่งขันระหว่างการแข่งขัน และไม่อนุญาตให้ผู้ชมการโต้วาทีสนทนาทางโทรศัพท์ในห้องแข่งขัน หรือเดินเข้า-ออกระหว่างการแข่งขัน อันจะเป็นการรบกวนสมาธิของผู้แข่งขันได้
  6. สำนักวิชาศิลปศาสตร์จะประกาศผลการตัดสินรางวัลผู้พูดยอดเยี่ยม (The Best Speaker) จำนวน 2 รางวัล 

รางวัลละ 500 บาท ในวันศุกร์ที่ 9 มิถุนายน 2566 เมื่อสิ้นสุดการแข่งขันในรอบที่ 4

  1. ผู้เข้าแข่งขันต้องปฏิบัติตามกติกาโดยเคร่งครัด และผลการตัดสินของคณะกรรมการถือเป็นสิ้นสุด

  1. คณะกรรมการตัดสินหลักการโต้วาที รอบที่ 1 – 4 รอบละ 3 คน ได้แก่

1.1 ผู้ช่วยศาสตราจารย์ ดร.ศศิมา จารุบุษป์ อาจารย์ประจำสำนักวิชาศิลปศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยแม่ฟ้าหลวง

1.2 อาจารย์ Darryl Shane Uy Gravador อาจารย์ประจำสำนักวิชาศิลปศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยแม่ฟ้าหลวง

1.3 อาจารย์ Sai Kham Lu อาจารย์ประจำสำนักวิชาศิลปศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยแม่ฟ้าหลวง

  • ผู้กำกับเวลา รอบที่ 2 – 4 รอบละ 2 คน
  • กรรมการบันทึกและประมวลผลการแข่งขัน รอบที่ 1 – 4 รอบละ 1 คน
  • ผู้ดำเนินรายการประจำห้องแข่งขัน รอบที่ 2 – 4 รอบละ 1 คน 

เกณฑ์การให้คะแนน

  1. การแข่งขันโต้วาทีภาษาอังกฤษ กิจกรรม MFU English Talent Expo 2023 ครั้งนี้เป็นการแข่งขันที่มีการประยุกต์ใช้รูปแบบ      การแข่งขันโต้วาทีรัฐสภาเอเชีย (Asian Parliamentary Debate) ในการโต้วาทีและการตัดสิน และเพื่อความเหมาะสมกับกิจกรรม การแข่งขันโต้วาทีครั้งนี้จะไม่มีผู้พูดปิดประเด็น (Reply Speech) ของแต่ละทีม
  2. คะแนนเต็มต่อคนต่อครั้ง 100 คะแนน รวมทีมละ 300 คะแนน การให้คะแนนของคณะกรรมการตัดสินจะพิจารณาจากเกณฑ์ดังนี้

2.1 เนื้อหาเพื่อพิสูจน์ญัตติ หักล้างญัตติ ประเด็นโต้แย้งต่างๆ เหตุผล ตัวอย่างเพื่อสนับสนุน หรือการโน้มน้าวผู้ฟัง 40 คะแนน

2.2 ภาษา การใช้เสียง ความชัดถ้อยชัดคำ การเว้นวรรคตอน อักขรวิธี อวัจนลีลา ศิลปะการพูด ลีลาการนำเสนอ 40 คะแนน

2.3 วิธีการนำเสนอ กระบวนการและกลยุทธ์ของผู้พูดแต่ละคนและแต่ละทีม การจัดระบบ เรียบเรียงข้อมูลในการโต้ตอบและรับประเด็นฝ่ายตรงข้าม 20 คะแนน 

กำหนดการและสถานที่แข่งขัน

  1. รอบที่ 1 นำส่งวีดีทัศน์การพูดโต้วาทีในรูปแบบไฟล์ MP4 เท่านั้น ภายในวันศุกร์ที่ 21 เมษายน 2566
  2. รอบที่ 2 ผ่านระบบการประชุมออนไลน์ Zoom Meeting ระหว่างวันที่ 22 – 26 พฤษภาคม 2566

  1. รอบที่ 3 และรอบที่ 4 ณ มหาวิทยาลัยแม่ฟ้าหลวง จังหวัดเชียงราย ในวันศุกร์ที่ 9 มิถุนายน 2566

รางวัล

  1. รางวัลชนะเลิศ                   จำนวน 1 รางวัล   รางวัลละ 3,000 บาท และเกียรติบัตร
  2. รางวัลรองชนะเลิศอันดับ 1 จำนวน 1 รางวัล   รางวัลละ 2,000 บาท และเกียรติบัตร
  3. รางวัลรองชนะเลิศอันดับ 2 จำนวน 1 รางวัล   รางวัลละ 1,500 บาท และเกียรติบัตร
  4. รางวัลผู้พูดยอดเยี่ยม จำนวน 2 รางวัล   รางวัลละ 500 บาท และเกียรติบัตร 

 

English Debate Competition

Eligibility Criteria and Conditions in Registration

  1. Applicants must be students from senior high schools in the northern region of Thailand.
  2. Each team is required to be composed of 4 members (3 speakers and 1 substitute). During the competitions at all rounds, the registered speakers cannot be represented by anyone else without prior formal notification to the contact persons or adjudicators at least 1-2 days before the competition of each round. Unless there are any unexpected emergencies causing one of the three speakers of each team cannot participate the debate competitions, the registered substitute will be allowed to represent and participate the competitions.
  3. Every team must be accompanied by one official representative of the school.  
  4. Each senior high school can register only 1 team for the debate competition. 
  5. School’s Executives or representatives are kindly requested to register to participate the debate competition via MFU English Talent Expo 2023 Website by Tuesday, April 4th, 2023.  

 

Debate Competition Rules, Regulations, and Procedures

English Debate Competition is divided into 4 rounds. Rules, regulations, and procedures are illustrated as follows.

Round 1 (Elimination Round) 

  1. School of Liberal Arts, Mae Fah Luang University will randomly divide all participating schools into 2 Sides, one for the Government Side and another for the Opposition Side, without any discrimination. All teams will be matched up randomly in the first round. Only 2 teams with the highest scores from each side will proceed to the next round; therefore, there will be only 4 top-scoring teams to proceed to the Semi-Final Round. School of Liberal Arts will inform which team will be assigned as the Government Side or the Opposition Side and the debate motion by Friday, April 7th, 2023 via MFU English Talent Expo 2023 Website.
  2. All participating teams are required to record the video clip of their speeches, starting with the team leader, speaker 2, and speaker 3. All speakers of all teams are requested first to introduce their names and speaking roles in English before starting the speeches according to the assigned Side, whether it is the Government Side or the Opposition Side. Each speaker will spend no longer than 7 minutes.  
  3. All participating teams have to submit and upload their recorded video (MP4 File Only) in the provided Google Drive by Friday, April 21st, 2023 in the video naming format “Team Name-School Name” (e.g. “Mae Fah Watee Team-Mae Fah Witthayakhom School”). The Google Drive link will be provided at a later time by School of Liberal Arts via MFU English Talent Expo 2023 Website.  
  4. Throughout the debate competitions at all rounds, the debaters are not allowed to talk to their coach, members of other teams, or outsiders, and they are not allowed to use any supporting materials such as pictures, mobile phones, smartphones, or other electronic devices.   
  5. School of Liberal Arts will announce the result of 4 teams with the highest scores who can proceed to the next round by Friday, April 28th, 2023 via MFU English Talent Expo 2023 Website. 
  6. Adjudicators cooperating with tabulators will record the individual speaker’s scores of all teams in order to win “The Best Speaker” Award receiving 500 Baht and a certificate to two speakers who can excellently perform their speeches from the Elimination Round to the Grand-Final Round.  

Round 2 (Semi-Final Round)

  1. School of Liberal Arts, Mae Fah Luang University will designate and launch the motion in the Semi-Final Round. All 4 top-scoring teams will compete in order to get only 2 winning teams who can proceed to the Grand-Final Round.  Matchups of 4 top-scoring teams will be Top 1 vs. Top 4 and Top 2 vs. Top 3. School of Liberal Arts will inform which team will be assigned as the Government Side or the Opposition Side and the debate motion by Friday, May 5th 2023 via MFU English Talent Expo 2023 Website.
  2. All 4 top-scoring teams will be obliged to compete in the Semi-Final Round online via Zoom Meeting App during May, 22nd – 26th, 2023. School of Liberal Arts will notify these 4 top-scoring teams of the information about the date, time, and Zoom Meeting link via MFU English Talent Expo 2023 Website tentatively one week prior to the Semi-Final Round competition date.
  3. Every participant should be present on Zoom Meeting punctually, at least 30 minutes before the online competition starts. We do not compromise any tardiness. If the participant is late to be present, then the adjudicators will decide unilaterally to disqualify the participant from the competition unless approved by the adjudicators for any acceptable emergencies. 
  4. At all rounds of the debate competitions, each speaker will spend no longer than 7 minutes. A Timer will ring the bell one time (or give any other signal) to notify each speaker that there is one last minute left. A Timer will ring the bell twice (or give any other signal) to indicate that the speaker’s time is up. Each speaker can continue to conclude his/her speech for no longer than 15 seconds. 
  5. Throughout the debate competitions at all rounds, the debaters are not allowed to talk to their coach, members of other teams, or outsiders, and they are not allowed to use any supporting materials such as pictures, mobile phones, smartphones, or other electronic devices.
  6. The teams ranked 1 and 2 will proceed to the Grand-Final Round and the teams ranked 3 and 4 will proceed to the 3rd Round for the Third Place Award. 
  7. Participants must strictly follow the rules. Any unexpected problems or obstacles during the tournaments will be under the adjudicators’ consideration and approval.

Round 3

  1. The teams ranked 3 and 4 from the Semi-Final Round will compete in the 3rd Round for The Third Place Award at Mae Fah Luang University, Chiang Rai, on Friday, June 9th, 2023.  
  2. School of Liberal Arts, Mae Fah Luang University will designate the motion in the 3rd Round and will inform which team will be assigned as the Government Side or the Opposition Side and launch the debate motion by Friday, June 2nd, 2023 via MFU English Talent Expo 2023 Website.
  3. At all rounds of the debate competitions, each speaker will spend no longer than 7 minutes. A Timer will ring the bell one time (or give any other signal) to notify each speaker that there is one last minute left. A Timer will ring the bell twice (or give any other signal) to indicate that the speaker’s time is up. Each speaker can continue to conclude his/her speech for no longer than 15 seconds.
  4. Throughout the debate competitions at all rounds, the debaters are not allowed to talk to their coach, members of other teams, or outsiders, and they are not allowed to use any supporting materials such as pictures, mobile phones, smartphones, or other electronic devices. 
  5. Throughout the debate competitions, all audience is obliged to listen quietly to the debate and avoid doing any actions causing that interruptions to the speakers like lifting up any placards, shouting, cheering, signaling any gestures/actions to speakers, talking on mobile phones/smartphones, or walking in-out the debate room.  
  6. Participants must strictly follow the rules. The adjudicators’ decisions are considered final, and there is no correspondence pertaining to the judging process will be reconsidered. 

Grand-Final Round

  1. Two teams ranked 1 and 2 with the highest scores in the Semi-Final Round will compete to win the First Place Award and The Second Place Award at Mae Fah Luang University, Chiang Rai, on Friday, June 9th, 2023.

  7. Participants must strictly follow the rules. The adjudicators’ decisions are considered final, and there is no correspondence pertaining to the judging process will be reconsidered.

 

Adjudicators, Timers, Tabulators, and the Speaker of the House

  1. During the competitions at all rounds, there will be three adjudicators.

1.1 Assistant Professor Dr. Sasima Charubusp, a lecturer from the School of Liberal Arts, Mae Fah Luang University

1.2 Ajarn Darryl Shane Uy Gravador, a lecturer from the School of Liberal Arts, Mae Fah Luang University

1.3 Ajarn Sai Kham Lu, a lecturer from the School of Liberal Arts, Mae Fah Luang University

  • Two Timers for each round (rounds 2 – 4)
  • One tabulator for each round (rounds 1 – 4) 
  • One Speaker of the House for each round (rounds 2 – 4) 

 

Scoring Criteria

  1. The modified Asian Parliamentary Debate Platform will be employed for the debating and adjudicating of this tournament “MFU English Talent Expo 2023”. In order to be appropriately applicable to the current activity, there is no Reply Speech for each team. 
  2. The total scores for each speaker for each round are 100 scores. The total scores for each team for each round are 300 scores. The scoring criteria are as follows. 

2.1 Matter (40 scores): quality of arguments/counterarguments, provision of supporting details/

justifications for arguments/counterarguments, knowledge of subject matter, and quality of rebuttals    

2.2 Manner (40 scores): clarity of speech, degree of speech persuasion, appropriate body language, gestures and facial expressions, pacing and voice projection 

2.3 Method (20 scores): cohesion of team arguments, teamwork and collaboration, team’s interpretation of the topic

  1. Elimination Round Submission of Recorded Video Clip (MP4 File Only) by Friday, April 21st, 2023 
  2. Semi-Final Round Online debate via Zoom Meeting during May, 22nd – 26th, 2023
